Swimming Lessons
Our lessons are geared toward building a long lasting relationship with water. We teach students the necessary skills to feel confident while exploring and enjoying the ocean and many cenotes of the Riviera Maya. Training begins with a theory portion to understand the physics and physiology of swimming. We continue in a private pool where the student can be comfortable trying new techniques and practice their strokes. For the more advanced we offer lessons in the ocean and cenotes to put all their skills to work in a natural environment under the supervision of the instructor.

The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef

The Cenotes
Beyond the reefs, the Riviera Maya is famous for its cenotes—natural sinkholes that offer a diving experience like no other. These cenotes are perfect for divers seeking adventure as well as those who wish to relax and dive into the stillness of the underground.
Playa del Carmen is ideally situated, within an hour’s radius of ALL the best caverns and caves suitable for all levels. We frequently introduce beginners to easy, open-water cenotes, guide intermediate divers through amazing cavern systems, and take advanced and technical divers to explore stunning deep sinkholes and intricate cave networks. Each dive is a journey into the unknown, promising an unforgettable experience.
The Town
The town of Playa del Carmen itself offers a vibrant and lively atmosphere, with a bustling town centre, picturesque beaches that are accessible by foot(!) and a thriving dive community. After your dives, you can explore the local cuisine, indulge in beachside relaxation, or venture out to discover the rich cultural heritage of the area, including the awe-inspiring Mayan ruins of Tulum and the ancient city of Coba and Chichen Itza.
What are Cenotes?
The term “cenote” comes from the Mayan word “dzonot,” meaning sacred well. They are natural sinkholes that formed when limestone bedrock collapsed to reveal an enchanting world beneath the surface. These unique geological formations are found primarily in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, especially the Riviera Maya.
Cenotes are filled with crystal-clear freshwater, offering divers unparalleled visibility to explore an ancient subterranean network of caverns and caves. When sunlight filters through natural openings, it creates an ethereal ambiance, casting an array of patterns on the cave walls and formations, illuminating the turquoise waters. The experience is nothing short of otherworldly, a dive into the very heart of nature’s most mystical creations.
Gateways to the Underworld
Beyond their natural beauty, cenotes are steeped in cultural and historical significance. To the ancient Mayans, these sacred wells were considered portals to the underworld and sources of life-giving water. Many served as ceremonial sites, with artifacts and human remains sometimes discovered in their depths, adding a layer of mystery and reverence to each dive.
Together with Josefina, I was able to experience two dives today (first dive: Angelita, second dive: Carwash). I absolutely loved both cenotes. It's worth doing both as they are very different. Josefina drove us to the cenotes, made sure we were well catered for before and between the dives and took me back to my desired location afterwards. Josefina guided me through the dives with safety and empathy and showed me all the special aspects of each cenote. Thank you very much and I would love to do it again!
My wife and I had a fantastic few days diving with Wild Playa on Cozumel and in Dos Ojos cenote. We would recommend Josefina to anyone looking to dive in the sea or in cenotes around the Tulúm and Playa area. Josefina was great at communicating with us before the dives, her equipment is high quality and in good condition, and she made us feel safe and comfortable with everything that we were doing, and is a pleasure to be around! 5+ stars!

Had a great cenote diving experience with Josefina and Wild Playa scuba adventures. Josefina was very prompt in answering all my queries. I like the information on the various cenote dives available to download from the website. Josefina was very punctual, ensuring we were one of the first groups to the dive site, she ensured we were all set up properly for the dive, the pre dive briefs were really informative and during the dive she notified us of all points of interest. I would recommend Wild Playa to anybody looking to cenote dive.
We had the chance to dive with JoJo during bull shark season, and it was an absolutely incredible experience! Her professionalism and passion made each dive memorable. We loved every moment spent exploring the seabed with her. 😍🦈

I've been diving not only with Wild Playa but with Jo for so many years now. When we first started diving with her in Roatan, I could tell that not only professionally but also to a personal level the service delivered by Jo is more than top notch. While in Wild Playa we were able to enjoy exceptional dive sites like El Pit, Dos Ojos & Bull Shark Dive, and while these were exceptional dive sites, it doesn't compare to the ethereal experience of Cenote Angelita. It's an experience which is not to be missed. While underwater you can be sure that Jo will take excellent care of you, she will cater all your needs and provide you with an exceptional perspective of the entire ecosystem and its characteristics. While over the water you can also be sure that you will be well taken care. Her knowledge of the local culture and is not limited to the famous touristic spots but it expands over her knowledge of the hidden gems that you can find along the Mayan Riviera. In overall, you can't go wrong with choosing Wild Playa.
Josephina is amazing!!! Anytime I’m in that part of Mexico, I register for diving with her. She’s professional, super organized, really knows diving and it shows with her expertise and groundedness around it all, she’s fun, teaches about the aquatic species you encounter, and is on time. Organisation was excellent and I was able to ask questions and make arrangements via WhatsApp. The payments were done securely and easily and I would like to add were an excellent price for the service received.
The dive days were an amazing experience. Wild Playa is not like a large chaotic dive shop which I was keen to avoid! Instead groups are kept small so it is more a personal experience. Knowledge of both the Cenotes and Reefs & Bullsharks were phenomenal and I learnt so much whilst enjoying some amazing dive sites. As my partner does not dive it was really nice to dive with Josefine as my guide and felt like I was diving with a friend. Although I am an advanced diver I am newly advanced. Josefine was able to offer great advice and support/assistance to help me improve.
I also needed equipment and this was all provided and of excellent quality!
If I was to holiday back in Mexico again I would 100% dive with Wild Playa again. Thank you so much!

After multiple comparisons, I must conclude that Wild Playa is the best dive center on the east Yucatan coast.
The instructors are experienced. The dive sites are perfect. Their equipment is brand new and top notch.

Had two fantastic dives in el pit en dos ojos near Tulum! Very sweet but professional instructor who did a very good job to make sure i had a comfortable dive and a good experience at the same time. Josefina did a very good job to make me feel safe and comfortable and outside the dive she had good knowledge about the places we dived at. Also a good lunch and plenty of snacks were included which is definitely a big plus during a long day of diving! I think probably one of my favorite diving experiences to far, thanks to the great assistance of Josefina! Thank you so much for the great experience! 🙂
Today we had three wonderful dives in the cenotes (El Oit and Dos Ojos). They were probably the best dives so far. Josefina accompanied us extremely professionally, from making contact, briefing, the history of the cenotes, the order in which we did the dives to the food.
Diving is her passion and you can see that in every second. We will never forget this diving experience and will come back again to do the Full Cave Diving training. Thank you for everything!

I did the cenote diving with wild beach and it was an incredible experience. Everything was very easy from the beginning, super good communication, good equipment and service. My guide Mariamma was excellent, I learned a lot and had an incredible time. I will 100% repeat
We had a fantastic time diving with Jojo from Wild Playa during our time in Playa del Carmen! I can recommend her 100%. The wind and the ocean currents were a little bit tricky during our time there, but she managed to figure out the best places for us to go so we could still enjoy some great dives and see some beautiful sea creatures as well as unique flora and fauna. If you want to dive with a guide who is highly professional and experienced, takes safety very seriously, really knows this region and the many dive sites available (Cozumel and the Cenotes, too!), AND is a lot of fun to dive with as well...look no further! You will really enjoy your time diving in Playa del Carmen if you choose to dive with Wild Playa!

Reflecting on recent adventures, diving with Jojo was the best. She picked us up at the resort in Playa del Carmen, provided lunch and all gear. I’m 67 and haven’t been diving years but JoJo’s made sure that I was good with the provided equipment and an easy dive before heading into a more technical one. I was comfortable and relaxed. Would I go with her again? Absolutely! Highly recommended.
What an amazing experience this was! I haven’t been diving in a few years and Jojo was amazing at choosing great dives for my level and getting me comfortable and confident again. She also had some really helpful pointers about keeping my breathing even throughout the dive. She was excellent at pointing out a variety of wildlife on our dives that I wouldn’t have spotted on my own. 10/10 would recommend diving here and would love to dive with Jojo again if I’m ever back in the area.
I had a wonderful experience on my dives with Josefina this week. Right from my initial online inquiry, she was so responsive, helpful, and focused on making sure I had a great time.
We did 2 dives at Dos Ojos and they were incredible! The cenote is beautiful and much more interesting than the typical ocean dives I have done. What made the dives so great was how helpful Josefina was throughout the whole day. She answered all of my (many) questions in depth and very thoughtfully and made sure I was completely confident and comfortable before getting into the dive.
Every aspect of the day went so smoothly, I'd have to say this was the best diving experience I've had. Everything from the smooth pickup and dropoff, to all of the gear fitting perfectly, and being able to get into the water quickly and efficiently really enhanced the experience.

We did 2 dives at Dos Ojos and they were incredible! The cenote is beautiful and much more interesting than the typical ocean dives I have done. What made the dives so great was how helpful Josefina was throughout the whole day. She answered all of my (many) questions in depth and very thoughtfully and made sure I was completely confident and comfortable before getting into the dive.
Every aspect of the day went so smoothly, I'd have to say this was the best diving experience I've had. Everything from the smooth pickup and dropoff, to all of the gear fitting perfectly, and being able to get into the water quickly and efficiently really enhanced the experience.

Had the most incredible 3 days of diving with Josephine! She is a fantastic, organised and experienced dive guide. She knows the sites really well & how to plan them to avoid dealing with all the other divers from different companies. Went above and beyond through lunches, picking up, dealing with gear etc. So upset to have left! Will recommend to everyone I know. Can’t wait to dive with her again in the future!

Wild Playa are the best of the best. Jojo will be your amazing pro instructor. I had the blast of my life diving in Casa Cenote, Mama Vina Shipwreck and Barracuda reef. 5 stars. Ultra safe. Close yours eyes and dive deep. Love

Wild Playa is the best and most chill dive shop in all of Mexico. When it was my very first dive Jo made me feel safe and comfortable relieving my nerves. When I returned as an experienced diver she allowed me the freedom to explore while taking me to the most beautiful locations possible. I've since brought friends to Wild Playa for their very first dives and they are instantly hooked because of their knowledge and very fun tours. Will definitely be returning soon.
We had an absolutely amazing first time diving in the cenotes with Jojo through Wild Playa Adventures! She was an experienced guide who took us to some incredible sites, and made sure that we were well taken care of. Their entire operation is very professional, friendly, and gave us an overall 10/10 experience! We will definitely be coming back!

I was lucky to do in two days the best combination of dives one would dream of with deep and shallow cavern cenotes dives, going inside a shipwreck, enjoying sealife in an gorgeous coral dive, and even getting close to an eagle ray and a nurse shark!

I came to Jojo to dive cenotes after having done just a few open water dives. And I had one of the best and most memorable experiences of my life cenote diving with her. She's a wonderful instructor and made sure that we proceeded at a pace that I was comfortable with. I never felt stressed or anxious and always felt secure knowing that I'd have her for guidance. She also took care of arranging all the equipment and communicated everything to look out for before we'd start our dives. I would definitely recommend her as a dive instructor if you're looking to dive around Playa!
I wanted to take 1 minute to thank WildPlaya for giving me a new passion! Not only did I learn a new activity but I also discovered a whole new world, the aquatic world 😀 was by far the experience of a lifetime!! Being underwater at a depth of 15 meters is terrifying but with the instructor Jojo it was just wonderful, she knew how to take the time to teach me my equipment well and put me at ease before going. start diving in cenotes and then in the sea! It was crazy crazy I recommend 110%! Thanks again Jojo now I'm leaving for Thailand with excellent diving knowledge I'm so happy yahouuu 😁🐬🐠🐙🐡
